Who needs ISO 45001? +
ISO 45001 is intended for use by any organization, regardless of its size, type or nature, that wishes to establish, implement, maintain and continually improve an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management system to enhance OH&S performance and provide a safe and healthy workplace for workers and other interested parties.
What is the difference between ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001? +
ISO 45001 follows the High-Level Structure (HLS) of other ISO management system standards, making integration easier. It places greater emphasis on leadership, worker participation, and the context of the organization. OHSAS 18001 (now withdrawn) was replaced by ISO 45001 in 2018. Organizations certified to OHSAS 18001 were granted a three-year transition period to migrate to ISO 45001.
Does ISO 45001 involve certification? +
Certification to ISO 45001 is voluntary. Many organizations choose to have their occupational health and safety management system certified by an independent third-party certification body to demonstrate to stakeholders that they meet the requirements of the standard. ISO itself does not perform certification.

Organizations can also benefit from implementing ISO 45001 without seeking certification, using the standard for internal improvement.
